Micky
Micky had been in a house with older children and was living happily with lots of attention from her owner
who cared for her really well. She lived in the mountains of north Georgia and had some dog pals as well
in the neighborhood. However, when a new baby came along, Micky was not thrilled with this new intrusion
as many westies are not with small children. (This is why we do not typically place a westie in a home
with children under the age of 7). When a second child was on the way, the owner contacted one of
her neighbors, who happens to be one of our club members, for advice. Micky is a great dog, had been trained
and had a lot of love to offer. After long and agonizing discussions, it was felt that placing Micky in rescue
was for the best and find her a loving home with no children.
In rescue you have to remember that all the family members have to embrace a new dog. The first house we
placed Micky was with a wonderful lady that wanted a companion for her 2 year old female westie. We were thrilled
when we took Micky to her new home and went away with happy hearts. It looked as if the 2 westies would get along
just fine. We were incorrect. Time took the two further apart than closer together and the new owner gave it her
all to make it work.
So we went back to our list of approved prospects and found Micky a home where she is the only dog, no kids live
there; there is a huge fenced yard and the man of the house works from his house so she has company during the day.
Sometimes it just takes a little longer to get it right, but Micky now lives with a new loving family in
Roswell, Ga.
