Sugar

Sugar was part of a two westie family plus a yorkie. Sugar's house mate, Spice were litter mates and approximately 2 years old. They got along just fine until they were recently boarded. Upon their return to their house, Sugar became very aggressive to her sister.

When her owner contacted us, she was looking for help, not to surrender one of her dogs. We put her in touch with our club's behavior expect who gave a lot of advice as to how to manage Sugar's behavior. This is not a totally uncommon problem for siblings to start fighting. Things seemed to improve for awhile, but the behavior returned. After much agony, the owner felt it best to take the advice to separate the girls and Sugar was put up for adoption.

In foster care, Sugar was a great family member with other westies. She is a really sweet dog, particularly one on one, and also played with the other westies. However, after about a week, Sugar flexed her muscles and began to start fights with one of the westies. So she lost her privileges in the house as she had to learn order and who was in charge. She responded to this, but was not happy about it. After behaving herself for awhile, it was felt that Sugar could be placed in a home with no other pets and have some training as to how she should behave in her new house and around other dogs that might come to visit.

She now lives happily in Stone Mountain and goes for long walks and has turned into a wonderful companion. She has been renamed Brandy
