The holidays are coming fast. During these times, we always need to be extra vigilant in caring for our pups. Remember that our breed loves to get into things and be wary of and prevent your puppies from sampling.

Remind guests of this as well. Well meaning friends may feel cruel when your charismatic little darling attempts to charm the food off of their plates; however, some foods can be poisonous and some canines can go into digestive failure if they have overeaten.

Kristine consulted several veterinarians and read through information provided by the CDC, AKC and other websites. She has provided the following information.

Foods that should be avoided:
  • Chocolate (especially baker's chocolate)

  • alcohol (a small amt can cause a coma)

  • onions

  • macadamia nuts

  • grapes

  • raisins

Other Considerations:
  • the berries of some hollies, poinsettias, amaryllis bulbs can all cause stomach upset, vomiting and additional irritations

  • use caution with chemical additives for the Christmas tree water

  • avoid flocking trees and using popcorn strings

  • be careful with Christmas lights and ornaments

  • Christmas Cactus

Contact poison control or your vet if you suspect poisoning!
