New class competition:
Altered classes; what are those you ask? I have judged at several specialties where this class is offered, and it is a lot of fun and a great place to learn stuff about showing. All entries must be spayed or neutered and too much grooming is a negative. Entered dogs can be stripped, scissored or clipped. The trick is for each entry to be clean and neat - no chalk, no hair spray, no mouse - "au natural" so to speak. We are hoping to get AKC to OK altered classes this year. More details to come on this subject.

Parade:
There will also be an honorary class to show off champions and title holders. Participants will receive a beautiful rosette and have a chance to trot their "Little White Dog" around the ring for all to see, admire and clap. We want our Specialty to be inclusive and welcoming with lots of southern hospitality and ways to be involved at all levels.

Help Raise Money: Sell one AD!!
One way to help with the finances is to sell advertising in the catalog. The book will be for sale the whole weekend at one of the largest show cluster in the country. That means lots of exposure to all who advertise. The Book is 8.5x11 - a great size to showcase a message, for only $100. I want to charge each club member to sell one adv. JUST ONE!! The club makes a great profit with little expense and the advertiser gets great exposure to a top crowd for a small price. If each club member talked to their vet, pet store, groomer, local restaurant, salon, etc - it would be a huge success. I have sold two easily by just asking the pet store and my vet. It is a way to support the club without writing a check yourself. I have forms and more details. If you need more info, let me know. I will send forms to all soon. Deadline is in November. Think about. I would greatly appreciate your help.

Judges:
Well respected judge Edd Bivin, FORT Worth, TX, will be doing the regular classes. Another judge that is working on adding breeds for her AKC license, Sandra Wolkskill from Chandon, OH, will be going the Sweeps - puppy & veteran and something new to try, altered classes.

Additionally, our Sweepstakes judge, Sandra Wolfskill, sent the following biographical information:

I have owned, bred and exhibited purebred dogs since 1971, starting with Siberian Huskies (like to run way too much), moving into Pembroke Welsh Corgis in 1982, and about 8 years ago, started a search for a Dandie Dinmont Terrier-who arrived after a three year wait! We now breed only the Dandies, having won WD and WB at the 2007 National and WD/BOW with the same dog at the 2008 National!

I currently am approved for the Herding Group, Siberian Huskies and 5 terrier breeds. My approach to judging is based on the belief that I have an obligation to the exhibitors to be pleasant, give each dog a fair opportunity to perform, and to apply the breed standard. Judging is an ongoing learning process that I find interesting and at times, challenging! Working through a new group is fun-but also an adventure. When the day comes that judging is no longer fun, I plan to quit!
